The Droid Razr is a super thin phone by Motorola, possibly their most inspiring phone since the Atrix. Here we’ll give our analyses on the repair for those of you who want to follow along with the video (below). We may have to produce a Droid Razr HD repair soon because none currently exist.
Remove top part that is stuck on with adhesive. This is similar to past Motorola Droids. After that it is onto the back case, which is a bit difficult to remove. Still, with a pry tool and leverage, it will snap off. There is adhesive around the battery so this is more difficult to remove than phones in the past.
After that there are six torx screw around the phone and 3 black screw to remove on bottom.
Sepearate the back bezel with a plastic blade and remove. Honestly, you’ll prboaby ruin your plastic blade because they are made to be broken.
Next remove the rubber covers as needed. Remove the battery.
There are now several screw hold down motherboard and a frame. Remove those
There is clear tap on top of the connectors. You will need to remove that.
Open all the flaps securing the connectors. Be gentle so nothing snaps off. If you are unsure how the connectors are leveraged up, proceed with caution and all should be good.
Now you can remove the camera.
The subframe is about ready to be pried up. Again, do this gently but with proper leverage and force, if that makes any sense. You can now pry around the outsides to remove the motherboard.
You now need to remove a metal cover that has three connectors inside. Once you do this you can lift up the entire motherboard and the LCD is exposed. It is time to remove the LCD and you will be down to the glass.
At this point you can replace the LCD, digitizer glass and any part during the course of reassembly.
This is not the easiest phone to fix. As with all Motorola Droid phones, you may run into some screws that will literally dissolve as you try to remove, so be sure you use the best tools.
The difficulty comes from the amount of steps and the fact that the phone does not snap apart easily, mainly due to the fact that there is adhesive everywhere.
Still, the directions a fairly straightforward. If you have repair experience, this should be doable. If you are new to the game, maybe it’s best to pass this one onto an expert so no little mistakes that turn into big problems are made.
